5 Books I’d like to pick up again in 2020

It happens more often than I care to admit, I pick up a book, fully intending to finish it ASAP and then, for whatever reason, I put it down and I don’t get back to it. Yet, it’s not because I dislike it or that I’m having a hard/bad time reading it. Usually I’ve just gotten distracted by something else or I was in the mood for something different and just like that, I put it down.

This post is for the books that I truly do want to get back to and finish, I do have more books on my “on hold” shelf on GoodReads but these are the ones that I’m really keen to get back to. For some of the others it might be a mood thing where I need to be in a very specific mood or it might just be that I’m not 100% sure yet if I want to finish it or DNF it.

So! Here are five books I’d really want to finish in 2020!

Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson

I’m going to start off with this one since it’s the one I most recently put down. I started this one in 2017 originally but started it over again in late November and put it down sometime in December. It’s not that I’m not enjoying it, I really am. However I read the first half in a sitting and I think my mind just needed a bit of a break after that and so down it went.

Although I can’t say for absolute certain I suspect that this is probably the book I’m most likely to pick up again pretty soon. I just need a little bit of a break by reading something quick in a different genre first.

In the After Light by Alexandra Bracken

I feel like I’ve already mentioned this one somewhere on this blog, but I can’t seem to find it now. I originally picked this up in 2017 after binging my way through the previous two books in the series. I think that might be why it’s taking me so long to get to it. Sometimes binging a series is wonderful because you get to experience the journey all at once, but sometimes you get a little too much of something at once and end up needing a long break. That’s essentially what happened here.

I do want to see how it all concludes and I do really enjoy the world and the characters, but yeah, finding the willpower to power through the last one is proving a little daunting right now.

Jade City by Fonda Lee

This is one that I know has made an appearance on a similar kind of post before. The weird this is that I am really enjoying reading this, it’s just that I read in very short bursts and not very often so it’s taking me some time to get through.

Still. I really do like it so I think this is mostly a case of me reading a little differently than what I normally do and thus it’s taking me a little while longer to get through as well.

Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

Another Sanderson book. I swear I don’t have a problem I just picked this up at ever so slightly the wrong time.

When I picked this one up I was really in the mood for the story it was telling, but then not long after my mood changed and it’s been lying around waiting ever since.

Which is sad because I rather enjoyed the world and the plot I was presented with, which is why I do really want to get back to it.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

When I originally picked this up I was really excited because I felt like I was finally getting back into some more paranormal/supernatural reading which I’d been missing.

However although I liked it I didn’t get into it as quickly as I’d hoped and ended up getting distracted by something else.

I’ll admit to being a little more on the fence about getting to this one than the rest, yet I want to give it one more proper chance before I make up my mind.

So! There you have it! 5 books I’m hoping I’ll get to finish sooner rather than later.

Do you have any reads that’s been lying around waiting for you to get to them? And if so, what are they? And if you don’t, teach me your ways?
