6 Book Series I Won’t Be Finishing

Posted December 6, 2017 by Vildea in Books, Lists / 0 Comments

So I see this pop up on booktube every so often and always thought it could be kind of fun to do. A little bit daunting as well, both because I’ve started a lot of book series and because there’s a lot of feet I might potentially step on.

Just to get the most obvious out of the way; just because I’m not finishing this series doesn’t necessarily mean that I hate it or that no one else should read it. It just means that it wasn’t quite my thing, I read it too long ago or it didn’t leave an impression.

Also, I haven’t added all the series I’ve begun so far in my life, so there’s probably going to be a part 2 of this at some point. Still, I figured that as the year grows to a close, deciding which series I’m not finishing would probably be a good idea so I start fresh next year. Lastly, there’s always the possibility of changing my mind, but I rather doubt it for most of them.

This list isn’t in any particular order, I just numbered them because it makes it easier for me to see how many I’ve added. So, let’s go!

1. Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz

This is probably one of the oldest series (in terms of when I read anything in it, not necessarily in terms of how long it’s been since it was published) on this list. I’m not going to be adding all of my really old series to this post as that could get boring. However I saw this book in particular and while I remembered reading the first book, I’d forgotten about the second book. At this point in time I can only vaguely remember something about souls and soulmates, but not much else. I wasn’t in love with the series when I read it, so I’m not going to be picking this up again.

2. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

There’s no prizes for guessing what kind of supernatural creature I was into some 7-8 years ago. I loved vampires, a lot (and before you asked I read the first 2 Twilight books) and so I obviously picked this series up. However as much as I loved the first few books, I stopped reading around the 4th or 5th one. I can’t even remember which one anymore because it’s been so long.

Anyway, I’m not sure if I stopped because I was waiting for the next or what, but stop I did and I never picked it back up. I recently read a quick summary of the last book and well… I’m not exactly upset I stopped when I did I guess?

3. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

So here is one that might get me into trouble, or maybe not? When I first read Throne of Glass I loved it to bits and couldn’t wait for the sequel. Which I got… Then I somehow never got around to actually reading it and finally a few days ago I decided to unhaul both of them since I don’t see myself picking it up again now.

I’ve also heard a few things about the later books that make me kind of uninterested to continue, so I’m just going to leave it where it is and keep the memory of the first book being awesome instead.

4. Divergent by Veronica Roth

So I read the first book ages ago and while it didn’t blow me out of the water I thought it was pretty decent, but as was the theme around that time I never got around to the second book. Then I began hearing things about the third book and well, my interest dropped then evaporated. I guess I could watch the movies but… I don’t really care one way or another.

5. Across the Universe by Beth Revis

Cover issues aside, this was a book that I quite enjoyed reading when it first came out. It wasn’t mind blowing, but I did give it 4 stars on Goodreads. Truthfully I can’t say I remember too much about it except that it was decent. It’s another one where I just never got around to picking up the sequel (which I think was because they changed the covers). I could lie and say that I would finish this but… I won’t.

6. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Here’s another one that might get me into trouble, but oh well. The truth is that I just couldn’t get into this book. It was so boring and I know some people say that the second one gets better but… The first book is supposed to be interesting as well! At this point I remember so little that if I wanted to read the second book I would have to read this again and well… I don’t want to make myself do that so I’m not going to.

That’s all the series from me that I doubt I will be finishing. Do you have any series you know you won’t finish?
